The Patriots were the undisputed kings of WEEI talk, with the Celtics and Red Sox battling for second place depending on the season. You'd hear plenty of Bruins chatter too, especially when they were deep in a playoff run, but nothing got the callers fired up like Tom Brady's comeback attempts or a Sox bullpen meltdown.

Back when I still bothered with talk radio, you couldn't escape the Red Sox-every single game felt like a life-or-death drama, and the callers would chew over a bad pitch for hours. The Celtics got a ton of airtime too, especially when Larry Bird's ghost seemed to haunt the Garden, but nothing beat the Sox for pure, endless chatter.

From what I recall, the conversations on that station were often framed around the team that was in the middle of its season, so you couldn't really pin a single franchise as the absolute ruler of the airwaves. For instance, during the autumn months, the Patriots' daily press conferences and Bill Belichick's clipped answers would generate an enormous amount of chatter, but then the Bruins would take over the phone lines when they were fighting for a playoff spot in the spring. It really depended on the calendar and which roster was giving the fans something to complain about or celebrate.
