I've worked with KRLD a few times during severe weather events in North Texas. The one that sticks out most was the 2019 tornado outbreak in Dallas. We were coordinating with their traffic reporters and meteorologists to get real-time damage assessments and road closures out to listeners. Also covered the annual State Fair of Texas for them - they do live broadcasts from the midway that draw huge crowds. And during the winter storms in 2021, KRLD was the only station keeping continuous coverage when power was out across the city. They helped coordinate emergency resources through their call-in lines.

Covering the 2014 ice storm that crippled Dallas-Fort Worth, I was impressed how KRLD stayed on the air for 48 straight hours with no breaks, helping stranded drivers and coordinating shelter info. Compared to the BBC's local radio coverage during UK snowstorms, KRLD's hyper-local approach was more hands-on, even sending reporters to check on power outages at individual nursing homes.

The 2014 ice storm coverage was huge for them, but you also gotta remember when they locked in on the 2016 Dallas police ambush-KRLD was the only station coordinating live updates from the scene while other outlets scrambled. I'd add that their coverage of the annual State Fair of Texas is always solid too, bringing in those real-time traffic hacks and parade details that keep listeners out of gridlock.
